It is more than likely you will visit the hospital the day before your surgery is scheduled. This is so the clinical team can get you 100% prepared for your surgery.  

When you enter the hospital, you will be directed to the ward. During this time and until you are settled into the ward, you will be asked the same questions by different members of the staff. This is normal and is purely for safety reasons, 

If you don´t understand the questions, please ask them to explain. Your clinical team will happily explain anything you do not understand so that you are fully informed. 

Your clinical team is there to help you, and they want to provide you with the best care possible.  

The team may want to know and see the following: 

• A list of all medications you are using, prescribed and over the counter medications, creams, patches, supplements etc. 
• If you have any results from tests that were carried out outside the hospital 
• Name and number to your health center/primary care provider 
• Name and number to a family member/next of kin 
• If you know how to get to the hospital or where to park 

The day before your surgery 

• Follow any eating instructions you may been given 
• Instructions for any medications you should stop taking 
• Follow any personal hygiene requirements 

Surgery day 

• If you have been given certain instructions for medications – follow these instructions. 
• Don´t use any body lotion, cream, makeup, perfume, or hair styling products. 
• If possible, leave your contact lenses and wear glasses instead. 
• Remove jewelry, rings, necklaces, earrings, piercings etc. 
• Protheses in your mouth or hearing aids should be removed just prior to your surgery. 
• It is advisable not to take items of high value into the hospital. 
• If you´re having your monthly period, use a pad, not a tampon. You will get underwear and pads at the hospital. 

Packing list 

• Spare loose clothing 
• All prescribed and over the counter medications you are taking in their original packaging 
• Cell phone and charger 
• A small purse for your items 
• Paper and pens 
• Something to read 
• Headphones 
• Toiletries  
• Nightwear 
• Slippers/loose comfortable shoes 
• Underwear 
• Tablet/laptop plus charger 
• Small amount of money for essentials
